Katyusha Truk (Counts as Manticore)
A quick update on the Red Orktober project... I have produced the first of three Katyusha truks, to count as Manticores. I have the necessary materials (barring a couple rockets I hope to pick up this week) to make the other two.
I am still waiting on the arrival of a bunch of materials to start work on the Deathstrikes.
The Grot troops however, are all assembled and ready for undercoating. I have all that I require, and enough spare bodies that I can have one test model, and a Veteran Squad, although I don't know if they really fit the theme of the force.
I still have to produce 10 lascannons that can easily be integrated into my infantry squads, I'm thinking the guns on fixed emplacements on large bases that I can then add grot troopers on to may be my best bet. I won't be able to put a gunner in place, I'm going to have to make it look like it has a degree of autonomy and the grots are there just to guard the bloody thing...
However, overall I am very pleased with my progress, and while yes it is now November, I'm sticking with the Orktober Revolution theme, as it is named for when it started.

DeleteAdmittedly the veterans, squad sergeants and commissars for this project are from a different miniature supplier. THAT they can object to. Luckily I rarely if ever play in a Games Workshop, I got a gaming club who are far less fussy :D
Great stuff! I'm sure you know, but the dakkajet kit has a ton of various-sized rockets/bombs that could be handy for more of these or the dethstrike.

How about the old guard heavy weapons that were on small carriages? Wouldn't they be ideal for the grots, you could have poles out of the carriage for the grots to push the gunner forward on.
ReplyDeleteHmm, not a bad idea, those old carriage lascannons always had crew members, one with a spare battery and the other with a simple trigger switch... they had no one interacting with the gun itself. I do have two or three of those, may look and see how easy it would be to pick up some more...
ReplyDeleteI had been thinking conversion cos I should have plenty of spare plastics (I have 5 sentinel lascannons, I haven't even checked my heavy weapon bitzbox yet) but that is certainly worth looking into...
Hmm... prices on the old metal ones seem to range from £5 - £15 each... perhaps not on that one unless I get lucky and nab a bargain... :P
